Servecast, Europe's leading provider of advanced
broadband video solutions to the sports and media
industries, today addressed the BetMarkets conference
in Vienna - the world's first and only senior
level sports betting conference.
John O'Connor, Business Development Director
at Servecast addressed the Betmarkets delegation
today with Servecast's vision of the role online
betting will play with broadband video sports
content. The presentation examined the future
of the betting industry, the broadband betting
market, the future of mobile betting and how Servecast
can help betting companies to exploit the online
and mobile platforms and produce new and unexplored
revenue streams.
Servecast are the market leaders in sports webcasting
solutions and are responsible for implementing
the Bet 'n' Watch service for leading Irish and
British horseracing channel, At The Races.com.
With Servecast's Media Studio, At The Races integrated
a facility which enables horse racing gamblers
to place bets with one of At The Races five Bet
& Watch partner bookmakers: Ladbrokes, Paddy
Power, Boyle Sports, Bet 365 and VC Bet. This
'bet to view' service means punters can watch
live racing after placing a minimum £5 bet
with one of the partners. Servecast delivers both
live video streaming and a video archive for At
The Races.
John went onto to explain that broadband and
mobile are areas with huge potential for the betting
industry. Over 200 million people worldwide are
connected to broadband and by 2010 this figure
will have doubled to over 400 million. With more
and more people spending an increasing amount
of time online as opposed to watching television,
this is an area that all major betting operations
are investing in. John outlined that "During
the next 24 months all betting companies will
be using live sports video on their sites and
that the major players will effectively establish
their own on-line sports channel." He also
maintains that 'In-play' sports betting will become
a driving force for the growth of this market
and will be quickly adopted.
John also outlined that mobile betting capability
is improving rapidly and consumer experience will
improve with time. By 2009 60% of handsets will
have 3G functionality, providing further opportunities
for mobile betting. According to O2, currently
sports & betting accounts for 11% of mobile
content usage. With mobile operators worldwide
investing in and expanding their 3G infrastructures,
mobile betting will become increasingly more user
friendly and affordable.
Servecast CEO, Darach Deehan said today "Servecast
is delighted to be invited to speak at such an
important conference for the betting industry
and to be able to share our experience in this
field. Servecast recognise the huge potential
of integrating online betting with online sports
video and we have developed extensive expertise
in this area. Our work with At The Races is unrivalled
- they now have the most sophisticated online
video and betting website. This experience is
something we are working to emulate with other
sports."
