Servecast, the leading provider of broadband
video solutions to the sports & media industries
is proud to announce that one if its long-term
clients, Irish language TV broadcaster TG4, won
the 'Best Broadband Application' award at the
recent Golden Spiders Irish Internet Awards 2006,
which took place on November 23rd in the Burlington
Hotel in Dublin.
Servecast has been the streaming media partner
for TG4 for the last 4 years. Servecast most recently
launched TG4's simulcast broadband service at
the beginning of November this year as the TV
station celebrated 10 years of Irish language
broadcasting. During the Summer, Servecast enabled
live simulcasts of the entire Tour de France and
Wimbledon championship over TG4's WebTV. Servecast
has implemented a whole host of valuable and engaging
video content for TG4's WebTV over the last few
years. The daily programming of the TV channel
is webcast which includes live webcasts of the
Dail and the daily news as well as webcasts of
the TG4 soap opera 'Rós Na Rún'
and the new teenager TV series 'Aifric'. Servecast
also delivered live webcasts of the recent Women's
International Rules test series, Ireland v Australia.
TG4's WebTV service is free-to-air and is open
to both Irish and international viewers.
Servecast provides TG4 with support for live
and on-demand video & audio streaming and
a geo-targeting engine which allows TG4 to protect
and maintain their contracted content distribution
agreements. For example, some content may only
be visible to Irish subscribers and not international
subscribers. TG4 employ Servecast's advanced Content
Management System, which provides them with full
editorial control over the look and feel of the
simulcast viewing console and enables them to
keep all of their Web TV content fresh and engaging.
Speaking today, Peadar O'Flaharta, Head of Information
Systems at TG4 said "We are thrilled to win
this award. We believe we should embrace new technology
as a means to broaden the reach of our Irish language
TV station and we have therefore invested significantly
in our broadband video service. Our aim is to
be at the pinnacle of Broadband TV in Ireland
and Servecast's sophisticated solution and ongoing
support has enabled us to grow our WebTV service
from strength to strength. Our innovative webcast
solution is very much in keeping with our súil
eile approach to content and delivery."
Also speaking today, Kevin Quinn, Head of Sports
& Media for Servecast said "We are delighted
that TG4's commitment to and investment in their
broadband video strategy has been recognized by
the Golden Spiders Awards. By delivering quality
online video of such famous international sporting
events as well as its daily TV programming, TG4
has positioned itself at the forefront of broadband
TV services in Ireland. Their success with their
broadband video application demonstrates the progressive
nature of the Irish language broadcaster. We look
forward to continuing our work with TG4, further
developing their already hugely successful WebTV
service."
