Servecast, the streaming media partner for Chelsea
Football Club and other top Premiership soccer
clubs, will deliver live broadband coverage of
Chelsea's pre season friendly games for the 2006/2007
season. Broadcast over Chelsea TV Online, the
three matches on August 5th, 8th and 9th against
MLS All Stars, Feyenoord and Celtic respectively
will be available live for online viewers. Both
the Feyenoord and the Celtic games will be available
for viewing on a worldwide basis; the Chelsea
game against MLS All Stars will be available live
for UK online viewers. Servecast's advanced digital
rights management solution ensures that the online
content is geo-blocked and only available in the
countries where rights are owned.
This initiative is part of a long term plan to
promote Chelsea TV Online and enhance the broadband
service with live streaming of Chelsea games.
In particular the live video service will be attractive
to overseas fans who cannot watch Chelsea games
live due to rights restrictions in their geographic
location and the availability of Chelsea TV. Servecast
have created a 'Live' channel within the viewing
media console on Chelsea TV Online to accommodate
the live games which will be broadcast.
Speaking today, Ravin Fernando, Commercial Manager
of Chelsea Digital Media said "We are committed
to developing and enhancing the Chelsea TV Online
service and the ability to offer live video coverage
of Chelsea games is key to the growth of the service.
We have a widely dispersed fan base around the
world and offering them the opportunity to view
live broadband coverage of games enables us to
grow subscribers and revenues from the service.
Servecast's best of breed solution enables us
to deliver highly advanced, quality online viewing
to the fans and ensure that we can offer the best
new media experience."
Also speaking today, Darach Deehan, CEO of Servecast
stated "Live content is key to the growth
of broadband subscription services for sports
clubs and organisations. Providing archive content
and highlights is of great value to UK fans but
for fans around the world, the ability to provide
them with live online coverage of Chelsea matches
is very exciting. We are delighted to launch live
coverage of Chelsea's pre season friendly matches
and to support a growing broadband service of
live and archive video content for the club."
