Following a successful pilot, Macmillan Cancer
Support is extending the use of online video through
2007 using Servecast's streaming media solution.
In October 2006 Servecast helped Macmillan deliver
online video communications for people affected
by cancer, their families, carers and supporters.
The use of online video on the Macmillan website
is now to be enhanced with further streamed and
downloadable media files.
Macmillan Cancer Support improves the lives of
people affected by cancer by providing practical,
medical, emotional and financial support. In order
to reach out to people living with cancer in more
dynamic and interactive ways, Macmillan have implemented
online video clips on their website.
The video clips, hosted and delivered by Servecast,
explain what Macmillan offer, share the experiences
of cancer patients, their families and carers,
and also demonstrate supporters' fundraising achievements.
The clips are found mainly in the site's About
Us and Get Involved sections.
Katie Smith, Head of New Media, Macmillan Cancer
Support said, "We are continually striving
to enhance the support we offer people living
with cancer and our website is a key part of that
support. Since re-branding in 2006, the web site
has already been expanded to include more interactivity
such as discussion forums and blogs. Video streaming
helps enrich that experience and enhance the sense
of community and support."
Also speaking today, Darach Deehan, CEO of Servecast
said, "We are delighted to be involved with
such a fantastic organisation, to help them provide
even greater support and guidance to cancer patients
and their families. New media has brought so many
innovative ways to communicate with each other
and providing streamed video on the Macmillan
website enables cancer patients, carers and families
to reach out to each other, share their experiences
and offer advice and understanding."
