Rugby leagues Super League is to get pay-per-view
and subscription coverage via broadband internet
after the Rugby Football League, the sports
governing body in England, signed a three-year
deal with Servecast, the new media service provider,
to create a service entitled Super League TV.
Super League TV will be available via the leagues
official website www.engagesuperleague.co.uk,
with live coverage of two games a week to be offered,
as well as on-demand coverage immediately after
the games have finished. The games will only be
available live to viewers outside the UK and Australasia.
In the UK, France and the Middle East, they will
be available as archived, video-on-demand content
with a 24-hour delay. Highlights packages lasting
10 minutes will also be available after a 24-hour
delay.
A total of about 62 games are to be streamed
live each season, including play-off matches and
the annual grand final, while live coverage of
each of the seven Tri Nations matches (involving
Great Britain, Australia and New Zealand) and
the World Club Challenge between the champion
clubs of England and Australia will also be available.
